Cold Flame - 'BLUE SHADOWS'

To celebrate the band's thirtieth anniversary in 2014, Cold Flame release a brand new studio album entitled BLUE SHADOWS on Monday June 9th. Unlike previous studio albums featuring the band's trademark original music, this latest release focuses on blues/rock covers material that has been arranged and performed by Cold Flame in live shows within the last eighteen months. As much as anything, this is an acknowledgement of the blues influences that have moulded Cold Flame music through the decades. Material includes music by Robert Johnson, John Mayall, Jethro Tull, Free, Cream and Fleetwood Mac. The album was initially recorded in 2013 on location in Rochdale by Stage Side Promotions with a three piece line up of Pat, Rob and Keith. In March 2014, Pat met up with sound engineer Wal at Shipwreck Studios in Glossop to mix and master the material with a view to retaining a 'live in the studio' feel. Apart from a couple of overdubs and resisting the temptation to involve other members of the band, the songs sound as they were on the day and achieve the desired punchy effect, characteristic of the band's live sound. Canadian artist Shannon Lyons designed the album artwork and some of the tracks will be previewed on Soundcloud prior to the release of the album. More details can be found on the albums section as well as www.stage-side.co.uk and www.paulwalster.com

Artist Shannon Lyons comments on the early blues legends album design and inspiration in her own words.. 'Inspired by the life and times of blues legend Robert Johnson and much love to Earwig Music for the use of the images although they have been substantially modified to match the artwork. From Honeyboy Edwards picture taken from a still cut from an Alan Lomax short film that resides in the US Library of Congress as the earliest colour film footage done on a portable camera in 1942 ( a silent, mores the pity) I was lucky enough to be there when Sonny Payne verified it as a contemporary of Honeyboy's at the time, right after watching him doing the Biscuit Hour radio show. He was hosting Bill Payne with Albert Bashor and Howling Bill Perry. http://explore.org/photos/6780/albert-bashor-bill-perry-bill-payne-sonny-payne. I love Homesick James photo in the centre of the cover and the other photo faces on the cover are Lester Davenport, James Fraher and Jimmy Dawkins. These are blues musicians that originally played with Robert Johnson and then went on to play with most of the biggest names the blues has produced. If you can read the "poster" attached to the fence, Cold Flame has been added to a most respectable playbill. My huge thanks to Michael at Earwig Music based in Chicago for the stills and images used on this project and of course Cold Flame for friendship. makes me feel good to have given back something for the artistic growth the band helped me achieve'.
